If you're purchasing a new service agreement (also known as
an auto warranty) for your auto, you have probably gotten
your measure of auto warranty quotes, both online and over
the telephone. But there are 3 important things you need to
consider about every quote you get:
The quotes you have in your hand are not binding. That is why they call it a quote. A company can provide you with a rough figure of how much your extended warranty coverage will cost, but that does not mean the price they gave you'll be the price paid. Factors, including the quantity of time you let pass between getting the quote and attempting to make a purchase, can have an effect on the veracity of your quote. The simplest way to protect yourself is to make sure that all of the information you provide is correct and opportune. If you guess on the mileage on your auto, and you are wrong, your quoted rate isn't correct. There are more ways in which a company can change a quote, but that one is the simplest way, and the worst part is, it will be your fault.
A quote does not mean that you can skip the small print. Don't presume that because you have a price in front of you
that you can skimp on the research.
You can know how much
your extended warranty will cost up front, but till you know
what it covers and what it doesn't cover, you won't know the
true value of your guaranty. If you avoid the fine print,
you may miss significant info that could save you thousands
of bucks down the line - not to mention a lot of heartache
when you suddenly notice that the repairs you want are not
covered.
The quotes you get are no likely to be better online than on
the telephone or in person. If you call the company that
sells the extended warranties, you could get faster service,
but don't expect a good or bad quote due to it. The same
applies for in-person quotes that you may get at an auto
show or by speaking to a rep at another live event. The
sole exception here would be quotes that you get from a
broker, who can sometimes work their sorcery with warranty
providers, getting discounted bulk rates that you, as an
individual person could never get. But otherwise, the auto
warranty quotes you get online are going to be nearly as
good as any others.
